A smaller file, on purpose
Ready for the upload box.
Application forms, community forums, and product listings often ask for a smaller image. Image Fit searches for an output below your chosen byte limit. You set the maximum long edge; it never enlarges the original.
Start at 250 KB for a small photo or 1,000 KB when detail matters. A very small target can make an image look soft. Inspect the result at its intended display size before replacing anything.
JPEG or WebP?
JPEG is a familiar choice for photos and widely accepted by upload forms. Transparency becomes white. WebP can keep transparent areas, but check that the destination accepts it.
What happens to image metadata?
The browser decodes the image and draws a new copy. The tool does not copy the original EXIF or GPS metadata. This is not a forensic anonymization tool: visible names, faces, and other details remain in the picture.
Why are the dimensions sometimes smaller?
Some images cannot meet a tight byte limit at the original dimensions. We first search image quality from 92% down to 40%, then reduce the dimensions. The final dimensions and file size appear with the preview.
Which images work?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP files up to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. Use still images: animated files may become a single frame. HEIC, SVG, and GIF are not supported. Processing speed depends on your device.
