Art & creativity / Mirror Draw
Draw a line and watch it turn into a pattern
Make rotational and reflected drawings with a mouse, pen, touch, or keyboard. Undo changes, save PNG or SVG artwork, and reopen editable drawing projects.
A stroke, repeated
Brush and symmetry changes apply to new strokes. Existing strokes keep their colors, widths, and symmetry.
Draw on the square, use the keyboard, or try an example.
Make a small piece of symmetry
Drag with a mouse, pen, or finger. Keyboard: arrows move the cursor; Shift moves farther; Space starts/finishes a stroke; Enter adds a dot; Escape cancels. Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes.
Guides and the keyboard cursor stay out of downloads. Save a project to continue drawing later.
A small drawing ritual
Let one line become a pattern.
Draw petals, stars, looping ornaments, or an abstract mark. Each stroke turns around the center; reflection adds a mirrored partner. Try a few wide strokes followed by finer details in another color.
Download a PNG for everyday use, an SVG that keeps the lines as vector paths, or a JSON project you can reopen here. Your drawing stays in this browser tab until you save it.
What changes when I choose another symmetry?
Only future strokes use the new rotation and reflection settings. This lets you combine different patterns. Paper color and transparency apply to the entire drawing. Undo and Redo include strokes, paper changes, clearing, examples, and imported projects, up to 100 changes.
Why are parts of a rotated line missing?
The square is the artboard. Rotated copies can extend outside it, and those parts are clipped in the preview and downloads. Points are rounded to hundredths of a 512-pixel artboard unit. Very small pointer movements are combined to keep drawing responsive.
Can I draw without a mouse?
Focus the drawing square with Tab. Use arrows to position the cursor, then Space to start a stroke. Move with the arrows and press Space again to finish. Enter creates a dot. Shift changes the arrow step from 8 to 32 units. Escape, leaving the keyboard canvas, or hiding the tab discards an unfinished stroke.
What are the limits?
100 strokes, 800 points in one stroke, and 8,000 points in total. A stroke saves automatically when it reaches the point limit. There is no autosave. Keep a project download before closing or reloading the tab. JSON imports must be version 1 Mirror Draw files up to 2 MiB; invalid files leave your current artwork intact.
